Pakistan seeks more Qatar LNG amid Hormuz disruptions; energy costs, PKR pressure seen

Pakistan is seeking additional liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes from Qatar and the spot market for July and August deliveries. This move comes as the US-Iran conflict disrupts energy shipments through the Strait of Hormuz and Pakistan faces increased power demand. The government is finalizing a strategy to secure up to six additional shipments, having recently paid $17.37/mmbtu for a spot cargo. This increased reliance on costly LNG imports could pressure Pakistan's foreign exchange reserves, potentially weakening the PKR against the USD and contributing to domestic inflation, which typically supports local gold prices.
