The Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) has highlighted a critical flaw in the FBR's FASTER sales tax refund system, which incorrectly flags non-commercial sample export declarations, diverting legitimate refund claims to manual processing. This defect, termed a "hazardous loophole," is significantly impacting exporters by causing undue delays and objections. The FTO has directed FBR's Inland Revenue and Customs Wings to jointly resolve the issue, recommending system modifications to differentiate between commercial and sample exports. This resolution is crucial for supporting Pakistan's export sector, which, if hindered, could indirectly pressure the PKR against the USD.
