PSO Liquidity Crisis Deepens Amid Rs 700bn+ Receivables, Threatens Fuel Supply

Pakistan State Oil (PSO) is grappling with a severe liquidity crisis, facing over Rs 700 billion in unpaid receivables from the gas and power sectors as of July 2026. Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) owes Rs 536 billion, while the power sector's dues have surged to Rs 168 billion. This cash flow gap forces PSO into heavy short-term borrowing, straining credit lines and hindering payments to foreign fuel suppliers. Analysts warn that without an immediate government settlement plan, fuel procurement disruptions could pose serious risks to national energy security. This situation could further pressure Pakistan's foreign exchange reserves and the USD/PKR rate, potentially impacting local gold prices.
