ECC Approves Rs255bn Export Subsidies, Lowers Gas Tariff for Power Plants

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved over Rs255 billion in subsidies across three schemes to boost Pakistan's struggling exports. Key initiatives include an enhanced Export Finance Scheme (E-EFS) with 8.5% interest loans, a new Long-Term Export Growth Financing Facility (LTEGFF) offering 2-5% interest, and a performance-based rebate on incremental exports. Additionally, the ECC fixed a lower domestic gas tariff of Rs2,000 per mmBtu for RLNG-based power plants, down from Rs3,500, to contain power tariffs. These measures could improve Pakistan's trade balance and potentially support the Pakistani Rupee against the US Dollar.
