Pakistan's Weekly SPI Rises 1.4% Amid Food & Fuel Price Hikes

The weekly inflation, based on the Sensitive Price Index (SPI), increased by 1.40% for the week ending July 16, 2026. This rise was primarily due to notable jumps in prices of tomatoes (+22.79%), chicken (+14.66%), LPG (+12.46%), and diesel (+4.41%). On a year-on-year basis, SPI recorded a 13.09% increase, with tomatoes up 210.18% and wheat flour up 71.81%. Persistent inflation could weaken the Pakistani Rupee against the USD, potentially boosting local gold prices as investors seek a hedge against currency depreciation.
