Aurangzeb calls for NFC Award review, cites population criterion unsustainability

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has called for a review of the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award's population-based resource distribution formula, stating the current 82% weight assigned to population is "not sustainable." He emphasized that this formula must be re-evaluated in future NFC discussions.

Aurangzeb also termed population growth and climate change as "existential issues" for Pakistan, requiring deeper structural reforms beyond immediate federal budget measures. He noted that the World Bank's 10-year Country Partnership Framework would provide $600-700 million annually for population-related initiatives.

Such discussions on national fiscal policy and long-term economic challenges could influence investor confidence in Pakistan's economic stability, potentially affecting the USD/PKR exchange rate and, consequently, local gold prices.
