FBR Introduces Digital Tax Settlement & Faceless Regime for Taxpayers
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has implemented a new algorithmic settlement mechanism for tax proceedings and a comprehensive faceless regime for audit, assessment, and appeals. This initiative, introduced via the Finance Act 2026, aims to simplify tax compliance by allowing digital settlement offers and remote processing. Taxpayers can accept settlement offers on IRIS within ten days, leading to abatement of specific issues. While this move enhances ease of doing business and tax administration efficiency, its direct impact on gold or currency rates in Pakistan is expected to be minimal in the short term, though it could foster long-term economic confidence.
