Pakistan Railways, ADB Advance $2.5B ML-1 Project Consultation

Pakistan Railways, backed by the Asian Development Bank, completed a second pre-market consultation for the $2.5 billion first phase of the Main Line-1 (ML-1) upgradation, covering the Karachi-Rohri section. The consultation drew 134 national and international firms, with civil work expected to begin in January 2027 and complete within three years. This significant foreign-financed infrastructure project, potentially co-financed by other development banks, could bolster Pakistan's foreign exchange reserves. Such large inflows typically contribute to greater stability for the Pakistani Rupee.
