Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman announced nationwide highway blockades and sit-ins for August 7, demanding the abolition of the petroleum levy and measures to curb inflation and power outages. The JI plans 20,000 corner meetings to mobilize support, warning against suppressing the protest. Rehman stated that abolishing the petroleum levy and other taxes could reduce petrol prices below Rs200/litre. Such widespread protests and potential economic disruption could weaken the Pakistani Rupee and increase safe-haven demand for gold.
