SBP Expands PM Housing Scheme Eligibility, Targets 150k Loans in FY27

The State Bank of Pakistan has directed banks to accept applications for the Prime Minister's subsidised housing finance scheme from individuals up to 65 years old, with no profession deemed ineligible and overseas Pakistanis also included. The scheme, revised in September 2025, offers a 5% subsidised interest rate for the first 10 years on loans up to Rs10 million, with the government absorbing the first 10% of loan losses. SBP aims to disburse 150,000 loans totaling Rs71 billion in subsidies during FY27, having already disbursed Rs26 billion across 6,000 loans. This large-scale government-backed lending could stimulate economic activity, potentially influencing inflation and the PKR's stability in the long term.
