Petrol Pump Strike Threat Looms Amidst Owner Split, Fuel Pricing Talks

A nationwide petrol pump strike in Pakistan faces uncertainty as owners split, with one group deferring action after government assurances on reviewing daily fuel pricing and dealer margins. Other leaders, however, insist talks failed and threaten an indefinite shutdown over demands for an almost threefold increase in margins to Rs25/litre. The government has promised a two-week trial for daily pricing and consultations on margins, unchanged since 2022. Widespread fuel disruption or a significant margin hike could exacerbate inflation and pressure the Pakistani Rupee.
