PBC Proposes Electricity Reforms to Boost Economy, Cut Costs
The PBC met with the Energy Minister, proposing measures to grow electricity demand by 44-45 TWh annually over 5-7 years, targeting sectors like EVs, agriculture, and industry. The plan aims to distribute fixed capacity costs over larger consumption, stabilizing tariffs. The government supports these reforms, highlighting Rs265 billion savings from DISCOs loss reduction and plans to convert imported coal plants to local coal to save foreign exchange. پی بی سی نے وزیر توانائی سے ملاقات کی اور اگلے 5-7 سالوں میں بجلی کی طلب کو سالانہ 44-45 ٹیرا واٹ گھنٹے تک بڑھانے کی تجاویز پیش کیں، جس میں ای وی، زراعت اور صنعت جیسے شعبوں کو ہدف بنایا گیا۔ اس منصوبے کا مقصد مقررہ صلاحیت کے اخراجات کو زیادہ کھپت پر تقسیم کرکے ٹیرف کو مستحکم کرنا ہے۔ حکومت ان اصلاحات کی حمایت کرتی ہے، ڈسکوز کے نقصانات میں 265 ارب روپے کی بچت اور غیر ملکی زرمبادلہ بچانے کے لیے درآمدی کوئلے کے پلانٹس کو مقامی کوئلے میں تبدیل کرنے کے منصوبوں کو اجاگر کرتی ہے۔ یہ اقدام، کامیاب ہونے کی صورت میں، پاکستان کی اقتصادی استحکام کو تقویت دے سکتا ہے اور طویل مدت میں روپے کو مضبوط کر سکتا ہے، جو بالواسطہ طور پر مقامی سونے کی قیمتوں پر اثر انداز ہو گا۔
