Impact on Gold Yuan Steady, Fed Decision Looms; Strong Dollar Impacts Global Markets
China's yuan remained stable against the US dollar after the PBOC set its midpoint rate at a 3.5-year high of 6.7899 per dollar. The US dollar held near a one-month high, with markets pricing in a 33% chance of a 25-basis-point Fed rate hike. Some analysts now see a slightly better than even chance of a July hike, above the market's 40% probability, while the dollar index was slightly lower at 101.36. A stronger US dollar or a hawkish Fed decision could exert downward pressure on international gold prices and influence the USD/PKR exchange rate.
