Ministry to explore LESCO/MEPCO bifurcation before privatization

The Ministry of Privatisation has established a Technical Committee to evaluate the feasibility of bifurcating Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) and Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) into two or three smaller distribution companies. This move aims to improve performance, as both entities, serving 8.76 million and 7.05 million customers respectively, have historically struggled with theft, losses, and recovery. The committee will analyze strategic pros and cons of such restructuring in line with the National Electricity Plan and ongoing privatization program.
