Pakistan Auto Industry Suffers from Policy Delays, Fiscal Anomalies

Pakistan's auto industry is struggling due to the non-finalization of the Auto Sector Development Policy 2026–31, according to Power Minister Sardar Awais Leghari. The sector faces challenges from increased sales tax on hybrid vehicles and reduced CBU import duties, making CKD kits more expensive than finished units. This anomaly, coupled with stalled production lines, puts billions in investment at risk and raises concerns about fiscal priorities under the IMF program.
