Pakistan approves Rs4.327bn for foreign investor legal disputes

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved a Rs4.327 billion Technical Supplementary Grant for the current fiscal year to meet legal and arbitration expenses in ongoing disputes between the Government of Pakistan and international investors. These include cases involving shareholders of K-Electric, M/s Karim-ud-Din (Halmore Power), and M/s Star Hydropower Limited. The Power Division sought these funds to engage legal teams and pay arbitration forums, addressing outstanding legal obligations to safeguard state interests and avoid additional costs. This allocation, while significant for government finances, is unlikely to have a direct, immediate impact on gold or USD/PKR rates in Pakistan.
