India: 22 Citizens on Hijacked Ships Off Yemen, Somalia
New Delhi reported 22 Indian nationals are among the crew of two vessels seized by gunmen this week in the Gulf of Aden. The Seamull tanker, with 16 Indians, issued a distress call and was forced towards Somalia, while the cargo ship Lutuf, with six Indians, was also hijacked. The Seamull was previously sanctioned by the US for exporting Iranian oil. This incident could heighten regional geopolitical risk, potentially supporting crude oil prices and safe-haven assets like gold.
