Hormuz Closure Slashes Oil Flow to 4.9M BPD Amid War
The Strait of Hormuz has seen crude and liquids flow plummet to 4.9 million barrels per day (BPD) in Q2, down from 21.6 million BPD in Q4 2025, following its effective closure since late February due to war between Iran, the U.S., and Israel. Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf stated in June that the strait's management “will never return to the way it was before.” This severe disruption in a critical oil chokepoint is likely to sustain high crude oil prices, potentially increasing inflationary pressures and bolstering safe-haven demand for gold, while also impacting the USD/PKR exchange rate.
