Pakistan Govt Apologises for Loadshedding Amid High LNG Costs
Pakistan's federal government apologised for night-time loadshedding, attributing it to unavailable LNG from Qatar and soaring spot market prices, which have risen from $30-35 million to $75 million per cargo due to the Iran-US conflict. Ministers stated buying expensive spot LNG would raise electricity bills by Rs5-6 per unit, opting for loadshedding to shield consumers. The situation strains the current account, with fuel imports reaching $1.3 billion in March-July 2026. This ongoing energy crisis and its impact on the current account could exert pressure on the Pakistani Rupee, potentially influencing local gold prices.

وفاقی حکومت نے رات کی لوڈشیڈنگ پر قوم سے معذرت کی، جس کی وجہ قطر سے ایل این جی کی عدم دستیابی اور ایران-امریکہ تنازع کے باعث سپاٹ مارکیٹ میں قیمتوں میں اضافہ بتایا گیا۔ وزراء نے کہا کہ مہنگی سپاٹ ایل این جی خریدنے سے بجلی کے بلوں میں 5-6 روپے فی یونٹ اضافہ ہوگا، لہٰذا صارفین کو بچانے کے لیے لوڈشیڈنگ کا فیصلہ کیا گیا۔ اس صورتحال سے کرنٹ اکاؤنٹ پر دباؤ بڑھ رہا ہے، مارچ تا جولائی 2026 میں ایندھن کی درآمدات 1.3 بلین ڈالر تک پہنچ گئیں۔ یہ توانائی بحران اور کرنٹ اکاؤنٹ پر اس کا اثر پاکستانی روپے پر دباؤ ڈال سکتا ہے، جس سے مقامی سونے کی قیمتیں متاثر ہو سکتی ہیں۔
