PSMA Warns Surplus Sugar May Delay Crushing Season, Urges Exports
The Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) has urged the government to allow the export of at least one million tons of surplus sugar, warning that failure to do so could delay the upcoming crushing season and create storage issues. With an estimated 1.25 million tons surplus by November 2026, the industry highlights the potential to earn USD 4 billion from sugar and USD 1 billion from ethanol exports annually. This move is crucial for the country's second-largest agro-based industry, which contributes significantly to the economy and employment. Facilitating these exports could positively impact Pakistan's foreign exchange reserves and broader economic stability, indirectly supporting the PKR.

پاکستان شوگر ملز ایسوسی ایشن (PSMA) نے حکومت سے کم از کم 10 لاکھ ٹن اضافی چینی کی برآمد کی فوری اجازت دینے کا مطالبہ کیا ہے۔ ایسوسی ایشن نے خبردار کیا ہے کہ ایسا نہ ہونے کی صورت میں آئندہ کرشنگ سیزن میں تاخیر ہو سکتی ہے اور کسانوں و ملوں پر دباؤ بڑھے گا۔ نومبر 2026 تک تقریباً 12.5 لاکھ ٹن اضافی چینی کا تخمینہ ہے، اور صنعت کا کہنا ہے کہ چینی کی برآمد سے سالانہ 4 ارب ڈالر اور ایتھنول سے 1 ارب ڈالر کمائے جا سکتے ہیں۔ یہ اقدام ملک کی دوسری سب سے بڑی زرعی صنعت کے لیے اہم ہے، جو معیشت اور روزگار میں نمایاں حصہ ڈالتی ہے۔ ان برآمدات کی سہولت سے پاکستان کے زرمبادلہ کے ذخائر اور وسیع تر اقتصادی استحکام پر مثبت اثر پڑ سکتا ہے، جو بالواسطہ طور پر روپے کی قدر کو سہارا دے گا۔
