Pakistan's Current Account Stable on Strong Remittances, Contained Imports
Pakistan's current account shows stability in the initial months of FY27, with August's deficit modest and the cumulative position aligning with annual targets. This comfort is primarily driven by exceptionally strong worker remittances, which remained above USD3.6 billion in August, and a contained import bill, partly due to specific factors like reduced LNG and diesel imports. While goods exports remain muted, strong services exports also contribute to offsetting trade weaknesses. This sustained external account stability could ease pressure on the Pakistani Rupee, potentially influencing local gold and silver prices by reducing the urgency for currency-hedged investments.
