SPI-based inflation up 0.49% weekly, 10.64% YoY
The Sensitive Price Index (SPI)-based inflation in Pakistan increased by 0.49% for the week ended September 17, 2026, primarily due to sharp rises in diesel (7.29%), petrol (6.40%), and LPG (3.26%). Year-on-Year (YoY) inflation also climbed significantly to 10.64%, with onions, LPG, and fuel prices being major contributors. While some food items like bananas and tomatoes saw declines, 19 out of 51 items in the SPI basket recorded price hikes. Persistent inflation trends could pressure the Rupee and potentially increase local demand for gold as a hedge against currency depreciation.

پاکستان میں 17 ستمبر 2026 کو ختم ہونے والے ہفتے کے لیے حساس قیمت اشاریہ (SPI) پر مبنی مہنگائی میں 0.49 فیصد اضافہ ریکارڈ کیا گیا، جس کی بنیادی وجہ ڈیزل (7.29 فیصد)، پیٹرول (6.40 فیصد) اور ایل پی جی (3.26 فیصد) کی قیمتوں میں تیزی سے اضافہ تھا۔ سال بہ سال (YoY) مہنگائی بھی نمایاں طور پر بڑھ کر 10.64 فیصد پر پہنچ گئی، جس میں پیاز، ایل پی جی اور ایندھن کی قیمتیں اہم محرک رہیں۔ اگرچہ کیلے اور ٹماٹر جیسی کچھ اشیائے خوردونوش کی قیمتوں میں کمی دیکھی گئی، SPI باسکٹ میں شامل 51 اشیاء میں سے 19 کی قیمتوں میں اضافہ ہوا۔ مہنگائی کے مسلسل رجحانات روپے پر دباؤ ڈال سکتے ہیں اور کرنسی کی قدر میں کمی کے خلاف ہیج کے طور پر مقامی سونے کی طلب میں اضافہ کر سکتے ہیں۔
