APTMA, EU Discuss GSP+ Renewal; Reforms Crucial for Pakistan's Trade
Pakistan's textile industry, led by APTMA, has initiated talks with the EU for the renewal of the GSP+ trade facility beyond 2027. EU Ambassador Raimundas Karoblis highlighted that demonstrable progress on human rights, labour, and environmental reforms is vital for continued eligibility. APTMA warns that a potential loss of GSP+ could cost Pakistan over Rs1 trillion annually in exports, triggering widespread unemployment and impacting banking and other key sectors. The outcome of these negotiations will be crucial for Pakistan's economic stability and could significantly influence the USD/PKR exchange rate, thereby affecting local gold prices.

پاکستان کی ٹیکسٹائل صنعت، جس کی نمائندگی APTMA کر رہی ہے، نے 2027 کے بعد GSP+ تجارتی سہولت کی تجدید کے لیے یورپی یونین کے ساتھ بات چیت شروع کر دی ہے۔ یورپی یونین کے سفیر ریمنڈس کاروبلیس نے انسانی حقوق، مزدوروں کے حقوق اور ماحولیاتی اصلاحات میں ٹھوس پیشرفت کو اس کی مسلسل اہلیت کے لیے اہم قرار دیا۔ APTMA نے خبردار کیا ہے کہ GSP+ کے ممکنہ خاتمے سے پاکستان کو سالانہ 1 ٹریلین روپے سے زیادہ کا برآمدی نقصان ہو سکتا ہے، جس سے بڑے پیمانے پر بے روزگاری اور بینکنگ سمیت دیگر اہم شعبے متاثر ہوں گے۔ ان مذاکرات کا نتیجہ پاکستان کی معاشی استحکام کے لیے انتہائی اہم ہوگا اور یہ USD/PKR کی شرح تبادلہ پر نمایاں اثر ڈال سکتا ہے، جس سے مقامی سونے کی قیمتیں متاثر ہو سکتی ہیں۔
