Wednesday, 07 October 2026 · 05:55 AM PKT · PakGold News Desk · 👁 15

Pakistan's trade deficit is expanding due to slowing export momentum and sharply rising imports, according to analyst Ateeq ur Rehman. Exporters face high production costs from elevated energy tariffs, record fuel prices, and expensive financing, alongside logistical hurdles and delayed refunds. The country's exports are currently around $38-40 billion, just 8% of GDP, with an ambitious target of $100 billion in two years requiring 40% annual growth. This widening deficit could put further depreciation pressure on the PKR against the USD, potentially making gold more expensive in local currency terms.
