WAPDA signs Rs133.18bn contract for Diamer-Basha Dam hydro-mechanical works

WAPDA has inked a Rs133.18 billion contract with Power China-IKAN Joint Venture for hydro-mechanical works on the Diamer-Basha Dam Project. This HM-1 contract covers the manufacturing, supply, and installation of gates and steel structures to regulate water flows, along with associated electrical works. The Diamer-Basha Dam is a federal priority project aimed at bolstering Pakistan's water, food, and energy security. While a significant domestic development, this contract signing is unlikely to immediately impact gold or USD/PKR rates.
