The All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) has appealed to the FBR to retain the Central Appraising Unit (CAU) in Karachi and reassess the faceless customs system, which has led to increased clearance times, valuation disputes, and higher costs for importers. APTMA reported that average assessment time rose to 40.2 hours from 25.6 hours, with consignments cleared within 48 hours falling to 70% from 84%. These delays result in demurrage, blocked working capital, and disruption of export production, impacting the textile sector's competitiveness. While this highlights economic inefficiencies, its direct, immediate impact on USD/PKR or gold prices in Pakistan is likely limited.
