Farmers Demand Rs650/Maund Sugarcane, Threaten Islamabad March

Thursday, 05 November 2026 · 05:36 AM PKT · PakGold News Desk · 👁 20

Pakistani farmers have given the government a 10-day deadline to announce Rs650 per maund sugarcane support price and commence crushing, warning of a march on Islamabad if demands are unmet. Leaders of Sindh Abadgar Ittehad and Kisan Ittehad highlighted rising wheat prices, imported wheat concerns, and increasing input costs like DAP fertilizer and diesel, contributing to general inflation. They also demand Rs4,500 per maund for wheat, citing flour at Rs190/kg. This ongoing domestic inflationary pressure and potential for protests could add to economic uncertainty, potentially influencing the PKR's stability and local gold demand as a hedge.
