Hormuz Bottleneck Pushes Indian Refiners to West African Oil
Indian refiners, including MRPL, are turning to alternative crude sources like Oman and West Africa, acquiring oil at premiums of around $3 per barrel to Dated Brent. This shift is a direct response to ongoing shipping bottlenecks in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb, which continue to choke traditional Middle Eastern term supplies. The increased cost and supply chain diversification could add upward pressure on global crude oil prices, potentially influencing inflation and central bank policies, which might indirectly affect gold and USD/PKR rates.
