UBG Alarmed by 25% Jump in Pakistan's Trade Deficit to $3.95 Billion

Pakistan's trade deficit widened by over 25% year-on-year to $3.95 billion in July 2026, despite a month-on-month decline, according to UBG President Zubair Tufail. Imports surged by nearly 18% to $6.89 billion, largely due to higher global energy prices and demand for industrial raw materials, while exports saw a 10% increase. The persistent reliance on imports, particularly energy, and rising global commodity costs continue to strain the economy. This widening deficit could exert downward pressure on the Pakistani Rupee and potentially increase local gold demand as a hedge against currency depreciation.
