Karachi Water Tariffs to Rise 7.05% from July 2026
The Sindh government has sanctioned a 7.05 percent hike in water and sewerage tariffs for the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC), applicable from July 1, 2026. This adjustment, notified in the Sindh Government Gazette, is based on the average Consumer Price Index (CPI) and covers both retail and bulk consumers. The KWSC stated the revision aims to bolster its revenue and improve financial capacity for sustainable municipal services in Karachi. While a localized utility increase, such adjustments contribute to overall domestic inflation, which the State Bank of Pakistan monitors for monetary policy decisions affecting the Pakistani Rupee.

سندھ حکومت نے کراچی واٹر اینڈ سیوریج کارپوریشن (KWSC) کے پانی اور سیوریج کے نرخوں میں 7.05 فیصد اضافے کی منظوری دے دی ہے، جو یکم جولائی 2026 سے لاگو ہوگا۔ سندھ حکومت کے گزٹ میں شائع ہونے والی یہ ایڈجسٹمنٹ اوسط کنزیومر پرائس انڈیکس (CPI) پر مبنی ہے اور اس میں ریٹیل اور بلک دونوں صارفین شامل ہیں۔ KWSC نے کہا کہ اس نظرثانی کا مقصد کراچی میں پائیدار میونسپل خدمات فراہم کرنے کے لیے اپنی آمدنی اور مالی صلاحیت کو مضبوط کرنا ہے۔ اگرچہ یہ ایک مقامی یوٹیلیٹی اضافہ ہے، ایسے ایڈجسٹمنٹ مجموعی ملکی مہنگائی میں حصہ ڈالتے ہیں، جس پر اسٹیٹ بینک آف پاکستان پاکستانی روپے کو متاثر کرنے والی مانیٹری پالیسی کے فیصلوں کے لیے نظر رکھتا ہے۔
