American, African Crude Prices Soar as China's Oil Imports Rebound
Prices of crudes from Canada, South America, and Africa have surged in recent weeks. This rise is driven by China's oil import demand rebounding from a decade-low, coupled with ongoing supply disruptions in the Middle East. Congo's Djeno crude, for instance, is now offered at a $20 per barrel premium over ICE Brent, up from $15 two weeks ago. Sustained high crude prices could increase Pakistan's import bill, potentially putting pressure on the Pakistani Rupee and influencing domestic inflation, which might indirectly support gold as a hedge.
