Rupee Gains Marginally as Dollar Weakens, Oil Nears $100
The Pakistani rupee strengthened by Re0.01 against the US dollar on Monday, closing at 277.40 in the inter-bank market, with open market rates also showing slight gains. Internationally, the US dollar remained on shaky ground despite increased Federal Reserve rate hike expectations, as escalating Middle East tensions pushed crude oil prices near six-week highs, with Brent crude reaching $97.47 a barrel. A stronger rupee could temper local gold prices, while a weaker international dollar and high oil prices generally support bullion.
