ECB Hikes Rates Second Time This Year Amid Iran War, Oil Surge
The European Central Bank (ECB) increased its policy rate by 25 basis points to 2.50%, the second hike this year, in response to inflation fueled by the Iran war and oil prices exceeding $100 a barrel. The ECB noted the euro zone economy's unexpected resilience and revised inflation projections upwards, expecting inflation to remain above its 2% target until 2028. This move strengthens the Euro, potentially weakening the US Dollar Index (DXY), which could offer some support to gold prices in USD terms, while persistent global inflation and geopolitical risks may also influence local PKR rates.

یورپی سینٹرل بینک (ECB) نے ایران جنگ اور 100 ڈالر فی بیرل سے تجاوز کرنے والی تیل کی قیمتوں سے پیدا ہونے والی مہنگائی کے جواب میں اپنی پالیسی ریٹ کو 25 بیسس پوائنٹس بڑھا کر 2.50% کر دیا، جو اس سال کی دوسری اضافہ ہے۔ ای سی بی نے یورو زون کی معیشت کی غیر متوقع لچک کو نوٹ کیا اور مہنگائی کی پیش گوئیوں میں اضافہ کیا، توقع ہے کہ مہنگائی 2028 تک اپنے 2% ہدف سے اوپر رہے گی۔ اس اقدام سے یورو مضبوط ہو سکتا ہے، ممکنہ طور پر امریکی ڈالر انڈیکس (DXY) کو کمزور کر سکتا ہے، جو امریکی ڈالر کے لحاظ سے سونے کی قیمتوں کو کچھ سہارا دے سکتا ہے، جبکہ عالمی مہنگائی کے خدشات مقامی PKR کی شرحوں کو بھی متاثر کر سکتے ہیں۔
