U.S. Diesel Export Ban Could Hit Latin America Hardest, Impact Global Oil Prices
Goldman Sachs reports a potential U.S. diesel export ban would disproportionately affect Latin American nations like Mexico, Ecuador, Chile, and Peru, which rely on U.S. imports for up to 50% of their diesel needs. While global supply may adjust, such a ban could significantly tighten refined product markets, pushing international crude oil prices higher. For Pakistan, sustained higher oil prices could exacerbate imported inflation and put upward pressure on the USD/PKR exchange rate, potentially boosting local gold demand as a hedge.
