IMF Forecasts 1.3% Pakistan Contraction Amid Iran War, Warns of Energy Risks
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecasts a 1.3% contraction in Pakistan's economic output this year, attributing it to the US-Israeli-led war against Iran, which is disrupting energy production, shipping, tourism, and trade. While a rebound to 6.6% growth is expected by 2027, the outlook remains highly uncertain, with risks of further energy disruptions driving prices higher and tightening external financial conditions. This economic contraction and geopolitical instability could put pressure on the Pakistani Rupee and potentially increase safe-haven demand for gold.
