PM Adviser: Banks Fail to Disburse Rs2.2T SME Loans; SBP Urged to Act

Sunday, 25 October 2026 · 09:10 AM PKT · PakGold News Desk · 👁 19

Adviser Haroon Akhtar Khan highlighted banks' failure to extend loans from the Rs2.2 trillion SME fund, despite PM Shehbaz Sharif's directive to double financing by 2028. He urged the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and SECP to facilitate small loans, leasing, and insurance for SMEs, crucial for Pakistan's GDP, exports, and employment. The consultative session addressed challenges in accessing affordable financing, with SMEs citing procedural hurdles. This issue, if unresolved, could hinder economic growth and export potential, but its immediate impact on gold or USD/PKR rates is likely limited.
