Indian Rupee Under Pressure as Oil Prices Soar, RBI Intervenes
The Indian rupee is struggling against the dollar, trading near 95.1850, as Brent crude hovers around a six-month high of $115 a barrel. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is reportedly intervening to defend the currency, particularly around the 95.30 level, but faces macroeconomic headwinds and weak portfolio flows. Analysts suggest the RBI might allow a measured depreciation towards 96 per dollar if the 95.30 support breaks. This sustained pressure on a regional currency due to high oil prices could signal broader inflationary concerns and potential pressure on the Pakistani Rupee.
