Pakistan Cotton Crisis Deepens on Quality, Cost; Textile Exports Under Threat
Domestic cotton prices continue to fall due to poor quality and declining New York futures, while textile spinners face rising energy costs, high interest rates, and liquidity issues. Regional tensions and increased freight charges complicate quality cotton imports, further stressing the export-oriented textile sector. India's extended duty-free cotton imports also intensify competitive pressure on Pakistani exports. These challenges could weaken Pakistan's export earnings and put downward pressure on the PKR, potentially increasing local demand for gold as a hedge.
