Indian Rupee Flat Despite Weaker Dollar, Oil Drop Ahead of US Midterms
The Indian rupee closed nearly flat at 94.90 per dollar, giving up early gains despite Brent crude oil prices sliding over 4% to $108.3 per barrel and the dollar index falling 0.5% to 101.5. Traders stayed cautious ahead of Tuesday’s US midterm elections, with strong dollar-buying appetite noted in the non-deliverable forward market. The Reserve Bank of India's net short dollar forward position also surged to nearly $240 billion in September. The weaker dollar and lower oil prices could offer some support to global gold rates, while US election outcomes may introduce volatility for both gold and USD/PKR.
