IHC Reserves Judgment on FBR's Industrial Production Monitoring System
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) heard petitions from over 300 industrial units contesting the legality and implementation of Section 40C of the Sales Tax Act, 1990, which empowers the FBR to install electronic monitoring equipment to combat sales tax evasion. Petitioners cited financial burden and interference with business operations, while the FBR defended the system as crucial for transparency and revenue collection. The court's judgment will determine the future of this mechanism, which aims to strengthen tax compliance across various sectors. While this ruling impacts Pakistan's fiscal policy and business environment, its direct short-term effect on gold or USD/PKR rates is expected to be minimal.
