WAPDA Briefs Balochistan on Water, Hydropower Projects
WAPDA detailed its plans for major water and hydropower projects, including Diamer Basha and Mohmand Dams, to a Balochistan delegation, emphasizing their role in Pakistan's water, food, and energy security. The briefing highlighted challenges from climate change and India's actions on the Indus Waters Treaty, stressing the need for new reservoirs. These projects are expected to add 10 MAF to water storage and 10,000 MW of clean hydel electricity, crucial for national development. Enhanced energy and water security could ease inflationary pressures and potentially stabilize the USD/PKR rate by reducing reliance on imported fuels.
