Impact on Gold US Dollar Steadies After Fed Holds Rates; South African Rand Awaits Data
The US dollar strengthened by about 0.2% against a basket of currencies after the Federal Reserve held interest rates steady on Wednesday, with Chairman Kevin Warsh reiterating commitment to inflation control. Meanwhile, the South African rand was largely unchanged against the dollar, trading at 16.6575, as investors awaited June producer inflation and budget balance data. Analysts expect South Africa's producer inflation to rise to 7.9% year-on-year, up from 7.8% in May, driven by petroleum costs. A stronger US dollar could put downward pressure on international gold prices, potentially influencing local gold and USD/PKR rates in Pakistan.
