Gulf Shipping Traffic Down After Houthi Attacks on Saudi Tankers
Shipping traffic in the key Gulf choke points, the Strait of Hormuz and Bab-el-Mandeb, saw a significant reduction on Wednesday following Houthi claims of missile attacks on Saudi oil tankers. Only two vessels transited Hormuz, down from eight, and one crossed Bab-el-Mandeb, down from twenty, according to Kpler data. This disruption stems from a Houthi naval blockade on Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea, initiated last month. Such escalating geopolitical tensions and potential oil supply disruptions could support crude oil prices, thereby potentially boosting safe-haven demand for gold and exerting pressure on the Pakistani Rupee.
