Oil Steadies as US Threatens Indefinite Iran Blockade, Reviving Supply Concerns
Brent futures rose 0.1% to $87.16 a barrel, while WTI crude futures gained 4 cents to $81.29, recovering from a 2% fall in the prior session. The US warned it could maintain an indefinite naval blockade of Iran and ramp up economic pressure, citing Iran's continued limitation of traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. This geopolitical tension, alongside forecasts of lower demand growth from OPEC and IEA, creates counteracting forces in the market. Sustained high crude prices due to geopolitical risks could fuel imported inflation in Pakistan, potentially weakening the PKR and increasing safe-haven demand for gold.
