JI Threatens Nationwide Shutdown, Islamabad March Over Levies

JI Chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman stated ongoing protests in Lahore, Karachi, and Peshawar will escalate into a broader nationwide movement. He warned of a countrywide shutdown and march on Islamabad if the government fails to provide relief on fuel and electricity prices and abolish the petroleum levy. The party criticized the government for collecting over Rs8 trillion from consumers via the petroleum levy without adequate refinery upgrades, impacting millions of citizens. Such significant political instability and potential economic disruption could weaken the Pakistani Rupee and increase local demand for gold as a safe haven.
