Impact on Gold Indian Rupee Slips as Stronger Dollar, Fed Hike Bets Weigh
The Indian rupee declined 0.1% to 95.74 per dollar, mirroring falls across Asian currencies. This weakness came as expectations for further US Federal Reserve rate hikes bolstered the dollar, with the dollar index rising over 1% since the last Fed increase. Markets are now pricing in approximately 75 basis points worth of additional hikes over the next 12 months. A strengthening dollar and rising global interest rates typically exert downward pressure on international gold prices and could indirectly impact the USD/PKR exchange rate.
