Pakistan's Economy Finds Breather in Lower RLNG Imports Amid Oil Crisis
Pakistan's current account posted a marginal surplus of $49 million from March to August 2026, despite Brent oil averaging $99 per barrel, cushioned by lower RLNG imports due to Qatar's force majeure. This 'blessing in disguise' saved an estimated $1.5 billion in import costs, while remittances rose 8% and services exports surged 23%. The economy's reduced fragility to oil prices and increased renewables adoption are key factors. This resilience could support the Pakistani Rupee, potentially influencing local gold prices.
