FBR Delays Probe into Non-Customs Paid Goods Racket, FTO Recommendations Ignored

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) continues to delay a detailed investigation into an alleged nationwide racket involved in selling non-customs-paid goods, despite binding recommendations from the Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO). This racket, allegedly run with the connivance of Customs and Inland Revenue officials, is accused of using tax fraud to issue invoices for illicit products, depriving the exchequer of significant customs duty, sales tax, and income tax. The FTO noted FBR's failure to act as maladministration, with the 90-day compliance deadline now expired.
