Sindh to expand urban property tax base five-fold with World Bank support

The Sindh government, with $150 million World Bank backing, will expand its urban property tax base more than five-fold, from 397,375 to 2.15 million properties. This program aims to boost Urban Immovable Property Tax (UIPT) collection and strengthen municipal financial management across 20 local councils. A GIS-based, door-to-door survey will record property attributes and geo-tag properties for a new UIPT Management Information System. While a positive step for provincial revenue, the direct impact on gold or USD/PKR rates in Pakistan is expected to be long-term and indirect.
