India RBI's FX Forward Book Hits Record $200 Billion
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) saw its net forward dollar liabilities reach an unprecedented $200 billion in August, marking a substantial increase from $137 billion in July. This surge reflects the central bank's aggressive absorption of one-off, policy-induced dollar inflows into the Indian market. The Indian Rupee has recently been noted for lingering near the bottom of Asia's FX pile amidst deepening global headwinds. While this is an Indian policy action, such large-scale central bank intervention in a major regional economy could contribute to broader emerging market currency sentiment, potentially exerting minor indirect pressure on the Pakistani Rupee.
